The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the requirement for a more defined vision.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a sharper identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming him next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

David

Game Details and Vision

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and tests that change every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."

The game has not yet received an confirmed launch window or consoles, but players can expect more updates as creation advances.
